Week 1.1 Welcome: Create your Google account

Welcome

Thank you for expressing an interest in SchoolNet's Google Docs course.
Just a reminder of what the course entails. This was originally a four week course but it will now be squeezed into three weeks to fit in with the school term dates.  The suggested outline is:
Week 1 (beginning 7 June – 10 June): Getting started with Google Docs
Week 2 (beginning 11 June – 17 June): Google forms are incredible plus Create and share a presentation using Google Docs
Week 3 (beginning 18 June – end of term): Tips and tricks with Google Docs

This course is supported by an optional weekly webinar and offers a Certificate of Completion from SchoolNet if certain requirements are met.  The SchoolNet courses are not designed to be pressurised courses and at the end of the course you are given a month to complete any requirements should you wish to obtain the Certificate of Participation.
Google Docs is actually an incredible application and well worth knowing about. I never cease to be amazed that it is all free.

Create your own Google account

Our first task is to make sure you have a Google account. Here is a PowerPoint showing you how. What I love about Google Docs is its versatility. I created this presentation as a PowerPoint on my computer. I then uploaded it to Google Docs and changed it to a presentation (you'll learn how next week). Then I got the embed code to put it in the blog. You can view it on full screen by clicking on the box below. If you would like to download it or print it click on the little wheel at the bottom of the presentation.

Task 1: Create your Google account

The first task, then, is to create a Google account in such a way that you have an optional Google email if you want to use it for anything.

  1. Well that was simple! I had fun playing with the different photo effects, but settled on a boring, rather normal pic.
